When We Are Closed
If your problem is not urgent, please try to wait until normal surgery hours and avoid using the emergency service. If you require URGENT attention when the surgery is closed please ring 111 for the emergency Out of Hours service. This covers the hours of 6.30pm to 8am and all weekends and bank holidays. This covers out of hours gp surgery services for Watford and the surrounding area.
The person you speak to will be either a deputising doctor or a nurse. He or she will make an assessment of your problem and decide on the best course of action. This may well be telephone advice. If a face to face consultation is needed you may be asked to travel to one of the out-of-hours centres.
If the patient is bed-bound or so severely ill that they cannot travel, a home visit may be appropriate. Please remember it is the doctor’s responsibility to decide, with your help, whether telephone advice, a consultation or a home visit is the most appropriate.
In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call NHS Direct (0845 4647) to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.
Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
